Minerals Development Document.
Essex County Council has issued a consultation document concerning future mineral development in Essex. This document sets out its preferred approach. The Parish Council has requested a copy of this printed document but so far has not received one. The material, amounting to more than 130 pages, was on line. At the present time of writing it is not available for some reason or other. The consultation period begins on the 9th December2010 and will last for 10 weeks.
On Wednesday the 12th January 2011, between 11.30 am - 6.30 pm, there will be a “drop in session” at the Village Hall, where Planning Staff from Essex County Council will be present to answer questions on the suggested sites in Great Canfield. There are two suggested sites, known as Site A22 and A23 respectively. Both these sites are close to Hope End and Bullocks Lane. A22 is a southerly extension site for the existing Crumps Farm Quarry, located south of the B1256, to the east of Hope End Green. A23 is a westerly extension site for the Crumps Farm Quarry, located south of the B1256, to the north-east of Hope End Green. Should both or either of these sites be selected it will have a profound effect not only on the residents of Hope End and Bullocks Lane, but also upon the residents of Great Canfield generally. These two sites have been identified for the extraction of sand and gravel. However, it seems to be usual procedure for the developers to then extract clay, leaving an enormous hole which is then used for landfill. We will keep you informed when we have more information and we hope that will be before the “drop in session” at the Village Hall. Please keep a note of the date in your diary as it is important that as many residents as possible attend.
